SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance with 39 points and nine rebounds, including a crucial offensive board in the closing seconds, as the San Antonio Spurs edged the Minnesota Timberwolves 126-123 on Saturday night.

The game’s intensity peaked in the final minute when Donte DiVincenzo knocked down a 24-foot three-pointer to give Minnesota a 119-118 lead with just over a minute left. Wembanyama quickly answered with a clutch mid-range jumper and followed it up by blocking a potential go-ahead layup moments later, helping secure the narrow victory.

De’Aaron Fox played a key role as well, finishing with 25 points and 12 assists, while Keldon Johnson contributed 20 points. The win allowed San Antonio to avoid being swept in their three-game season series against Minnesota.

Anthony Edwards was electric for the Timberwolves, pouring in a season-high 55 points, including 26 in the fourth quarter alone. He was nearly unstoppable from beyond the arc late in the game, hitting 5 of 7 three-point attempts and nearly recreating his previous late-game heroics against the Spurs earlier in the season.

San Antonio dominated early, shooting an impressive 57% from the field and outscoring Minnesota 48-22 in the second quarter. It marked the Spurs’ highest-scoring quarter since 1987 and ranks among the top four in franchise history. Wembanyama led the charge in the first half with 23 points, matching his best scoring output in a half this season.

Minnesota responded in the second half with a strong comeback effort, outscoring the Spurs 40-27 in the third quarter and opening the fourth with a 9-2 run. Edwards capped that stretch with a corner three-pointer, energizing the crowd with an emphatic celebration.

After being held scoreless for much of the third quarter, Wembanyama regained momentum late, finishing the period with a powerful driving dunk that helped shift the energy back in San Antonio’s favor.
