3 clam fishermen die off coast of Savary Island when boat capsizes - BERITAJA

Three men died connected Thursday successful a boating incident disconnected the statement of Savary Island.

Powell River RCMP, connected the Sunshine Coast, received a telephone astatine about 11 p.m. from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre that a vessel had capsized about 500 to 1,000 metres offshore of Savary.

Two men had made it to the shore, constabulary said, but 3 others remained missing. Police said the men were clam sportfishing successful the area.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre had received a study astatine 10 p.m. erstwhile a vessel grounded to return to Lund Harbour, connected the Sunshine Coast, arsenic expected.

In response, hunt and rescue resources were instantly deployed, including a Powell River Coast Guard lifeboat, an inshore accelerated rescue trade from Cortez Bay and an Air Force Kingfisher craft from 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron based successful Comox, RCMP said.

Powell River RCMP, successful coordination pinch Savary Island Fire, conducted shoreline searches, and the 3 missing men were located deceased.

The 2 men who survived were transported backmost to Powell River and past to the hospital.

The Powell River RCMP is assisting the BC Coroners Service pinch the ongoing investigation into the incident.
